green mobility scooters manufactures a complete range of medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles, which include lower-floor and high-floor models. The EV Star Cab & Chassis is their flagship model, and can be adapted to suit a wide range of applications. The design of the platform is based on a simple sheet of paper, which allows for optimal positioning of the battery pack and a lower center-of-gravity. This results in better payload/range ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX is designed to serve mid to last mile refrigerated delivery as well as catering applications. The refrigerated truck's class 4 configuration's one interior wall structure and higher insulation compared to traditional trucks enable seamless sanitation, improved temperature control and a longer life. The EV Star REEFERX has a higher capacity for cargo and an industry-leading payload to range for zero-emission freight or passenger transport.
GreenPower joined forces with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems that will allow fleets to transition to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star is also capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We were allowed to test drive the EV9 on the local highway for a few hours, and found it to be easy to drive, and comfortable to drive long distances. The EV9 can be used to block road noise and wind while on the highway. It glides effortlessly over ruts and humps. The car's acceleration is surprisingly quick, and it has adjustable regenerative brakes to enable "one-pedal driving" simply by taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 offers a great range and can be charged within three hours or less at home, or with any commercial charger. Drivers can select between two modes of operation that include eco mode and sports mode. The eco mode prioritizes the torque and cruise control while the sport mode is designed to maximize speed and handling. Both are fun to drive and provide a unique driving experience for anyone that has never been in an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicle offerings including a multi-purpose electric mini bus called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used for executive shuttles, microtransit and transit buses, vanpools, or paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower is already producing about 10 EV Star buses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is working to replace their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 all-electric vehicles. GreenPower will increase production to meet the demands of the Biden Administration who is planning to electrify all school buses in America. Their EV Star bus is the first of its kind to be Altoona-tested and FMVSS-certified. Buy America compliant and ADA compliant. This means that they are eligible for federal assistance in transit. We will be following the AV Star as it makes its public demonstration tour the coming months. We will share more details on this exciting EV.
